Purple Profile
Name:
Denice Allen
Nickname:
Neecy/Dennis, Oh great one (I may have made the last one up…)
What is your favourite?…
Holiday Destination:
Home. I would love to travel more, but it’s just always nice to return to my own castle.
Quote:
I have two!
- It changes often, but I do love this one by C. S. Lewis.
- “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.” Many people think that being humble is very associated with being poor, very quiet, and other similar connotations. I aspire not to be popular, but to be in a position where I can positively impact as many people as possible, and many times that leads me out of my comfort zone and demands me to put myself “out there.” This reminds me to challenge myself to see past my difficulties and focus more on helping others.
Food:
Most things Caribbean! Can’t beat a bowl of ‘Saturday Soup’ or some Ackee and Saltfish with some festival. Yum!
What inspires you?
The Word of God. It is a fountain of wisdom! There is advice and encouragement for all areas of life and fuels an assurance that I can do anything!
What’s one interesting fact about you?
I had my poem published in a book when I was in Primary school. I am a published poet (well.. kind of…)
Why are you in the Purple Touch?
It’s in the blood! I am so proud to be part of such an inspirational group of women. We women are such wonderful and complex creations. We are all on a journey going through our battles along the way, and sometimes it can feel like we are alone, which makes it harder. The Purples talk candidly and openly, not about theory, but the good, the bad and the ugly things that we face/have faced to help others (ladies in particular) to overcome on their journey. That’s a powerful sisterhood!
