Let’s get fruity!

We always hear how fruits are good for our health, but just how healthy are they? This month we find out why certain fruits are good for us. 

Apples! 

You know what they say; an apple a day keeps the doctor away! Well this juicy fruit may just keep the dentist away too. Did you know that apples naturally clean your teeth with every bite and keep your mouth fresh? They are also rich in antioxidants called flavonoids which may lower your chances of developing diabetes and asthma. It’s important to keep the skin on apples as the vitamins lie just beneath the skin. 

Avocados 

At last, good fats!! Did you know that you could replace your butter with avocado? It’s just as creamy, yet contains healthy fats that can help lower cholesterol. Plus, it’s good for your heart! 

Bananas 

Did you know that bananas could help lower blood pressure? Wow! This yellow diamond is just as yummy to eat; each banana contains 422 milligrams of potassium, more potassium than most fruits. This is what helps to lower blood pressure. 

Blackberries 

Did you know that this gorgeous fruit may help to reduce the risk of stroke and cancer?! Its deep purple skin is from a powerful antioxidant called anthocyanin. Studies have actually shown that blackberry extract may help stop the growth of lung cancer cells. Now anything purple has got to be good!  

Cranberries 

A girl’s best friend! Did you know that cranberries are antibacterial? Studies have shown that cranberries can help treat and prevent urinary tract infections. Most recently, it has been found to prevent kidney stones and ulcers. If you don’t like the taste of mouthwash, you could try cranberry juice instead, it’s known to be a great bacteria killing mouthwash! 

Grapes 

Did you know that grapes may help prevent heart disease? Grapes contain an antioxidant called resveratrol which helps to reduce blood pressure levels and lowers risk of blood clots. Resveratrol may help stop the growth of stomach, colon and breast cancer cells. 

This month, let’s all benefit from the goodness of fruit. They don’t just taste good; they actually do us some good!
